More Than 3,000 Kilometers for Children’s Lives: Cyclist from Samarkand to Embark on an Expedition Across the Pamirs
In August 2026, a cyclist from Samarkand will set off on a solo journey along one of Central Asia’s most challenging and spectacular routes — the legendary Pamir Highway. Covering more than 3,000 kilometers, the expedition will cross Tajikistan and take the cyclist over Ak-Baital Pass (4,655 m), the highest road pass in the region. The route will then continue through the Kulma Pass into China and on to the ancient city of Kashgar before crossing the Pamirs once again and finishing in Osh, Kyrgyzstan.
However, the primary purpose of the journey is neither to achieve an athletic feat nor to conquer high-altitude mountain passes. The cycling expedition is a charitable initiative in support of the EZGU AMAL Public Charitable Foundation.
Throughout the expedition, the cyclist will share daily photographs, videos, and travel notes, telling stories about the natural beauty of the Pamirs, the cultures of Central Asia, and the people he meets along the way. The project’s main goal is to raise public awareness of children in need of medical treatment and inspire people to support the charitable initiative.
The journey will be completed entirely self-supported. The route includes mountain passes above 4,500 meters, sections exposed to strong winds and dramatic temperature changes, as well as long stretches without populated areas. Every day of the expedition will be a serious test of endurance and determination.
“Every kilometer I complete will symbolize support for children who are fighting for their lives today. If this expedition gives even one child a chance to recover, then every kilometer of this journey will have been worthwhile,” says Ravshan Amirov.
The expedition can be followed on Instagram via Ravshan Amirov’s @ravshan_amirov account and the project’s official page, @velolife.uz.
